Broome to Perth
Section 5 — Two-up with Wife Sally
Broome → Perth
South along the Pilbara and Coral Coast via Exmouth, taking in highlights including Ningaloo Reef and Monkey Mia.
3,076 km | 24 days
Why is this so challenging?
Western Australia is vast. The distances between towns are enormous and the charging infrastructure, while improving, remains sparse across much of the route.
Sally joins Ed again in Broome and they travel south along Western Australia’s extraordinary coastline — from the red pindan cliffs of Broome through the Pilbara, past Ningaloo Reef, around Shark Bay, through Kalbarri and the Pinnacles Desert, and into Perth. It’s the longest section by duration and among the most scenically diverse of the entire journey.
The first full riding day out of Broome is 373 km — the longest two-up day of the trip — using an off-grid DC fast charger at Bidyadanga and another at Sandfire Roadhouse before an overnight stay at 80 Mile Beach.

At Port Hedland the motorcycle is parked and a rental car hired for a three-day detour to Karijini National Park — the distances are simply too large for the Experia two-up, with no charging solution on that route yet. Sometimes the machine determines the itinerary..

Further south, three nights at Coral Bay on the edge of Ningaloo Reef are built into the plan — a genuine highlight woven around a charging strategy that requires identifying every power point between Broome and Perth weeks in advance.
In Perth, Sally’s road journey ends. Ed rests two days, then heads east alone across the Nullarbor for the final push home.
