Sydney to Airlie Beach
Section 1 — Ed Solo
Sydney → Airlie Beach
Up the eastern seaboard through New South Wales and Queensland's Sunshine and Whitsunday coasts.
2,305 km | 11 days
Why is this so challenging?
Section 1 is the stress test — fine-tuning the Experia’s real-world range with a full touring load, calibrating charging stops and daily distances while still in relatively populated areas, before the route turns remote and those numbers become non-negotiable. Leaving Sydney in late June adds another layer: cold mornings, long hours in the saddle, and short days that put pressure on arrival times at each charge point.
Ed rides the eastern seaboard north from Sydney through Taree, Grafton, the Gold Coast and Brisbane before reaching Airlie Beach .
Day 4 includes a media stop at Grid Motorcycles on the Gold Coast, the Australian Energica distributor, and another media meeting on Day 5 in Brisbane with David Waterworth, who is following the story for CleanTechnica.
By Day 7, Ed is covering 346 km through Queensland’s coastal hinterland, with chargers at Gayndah and Monto before a slower overnight charge at a country motel. Sally flies to Airlie Beach to meet Ed at the finish of Section 1. The solo ride now becomes a two-up adventure.
